Pull off the plastic cover to reveal the shifter cable ends (shifter links). The blue one is reverse, the black one is for the forward gears that you will be replacing.

Photo provided by Tool Pants. It shows the cable adjustment tool (orange piece) that keeps the shifter stalk in the correct neutral position during the installation process. I did not have this tool. I used duct tape looped around the stalk in opposing directions: north/south, east/west to keep the shifter stalk in the correct postion while the shiftlink is replaced and re-attached to the shifter cable.

Once the shifter which is in neutral has been secured in that position via duct tape or the shift adjustment tool, I pushed the spring loaded shift link clip forward and marked the cable with a blue sharpie right where it enters the stock shift link. You can see the blue mark in the picture.

With the spring loaded shift link clip pushed forward, you can pop out the cable end from the shift link. It is held in there by threads. For reference, count how many empty notches there are in the shiftlink piece before the thread on the cable starts in case you have a problem and need to go back and use the stock shiftlink. This should not be a problem however.

In order to remove the stock shiftlink from the shifter stalk and replace it with the EVO Billet link, I found it easier to remove the shift tower unit and turn it on it's side towards the driver side of the car. I worked from the passenger side. It is attached by four nuts on each corner. Just unscrew the nuts and lift the tower off the studs and turn it on it's side.

Pull the stock shiftlink towards the front of the shifter tower as shown. It pops off the shift stalk ball end with little effort.
